Don’t forget Dad!

Public Service Announcement: Dads are the best! And it’s Father’s Day on Sunday!

If you, like me, have gotten caught up in all of the summer/FIFA/patio fun recently, it may have accidentally slipped your mind to pick up a present for your pop. Luckily I have a few connections and I can help you #Finditdowntown for dad, just in time for Father’s Day!

If your dad likes steak: The Keg (115 Garry St.) would be a great option. Take him for dinner – they’re offering a steak & shrimp combo for $35, they take reservations and they’re open at 3PM.

If your dad likes beer: Get him on a Tap In beer tour! Put on by the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, there’s a bunch throughout the summer – and it’s great value: 4 restaurants, 4 beers, 4 samples of appetizers all for $30 – and you get to check out a few great new watering holes in the downtown! Next tour: June 25.

If your dad likes cigars: Take a peek around Thomas Hinds Tobacconists – 185 Carlton St. – if you don’t know what you’re looking for, the friendly staff will certainly give you a hand.

If your dad likes a fine scotch: Remember there’s a Liquor Mart inside cityplace – perfect for a grab-and-go gift.

If your dad likes coffee: At Fools & Horses Coffee Co. – Broadway at Edmonton St. they carry Pilot Coffee beans and the accessories he’ll need to brew the perfect cup.

If your dad likes a good tie or pocket square: Try EPH Apparel – 291 Garry St. – they’ll hook him up with a custom tailored suit to go with it!

Other ideas? Let me know what you find downtown for dad!

Time to accessorize!

The WAG Gallery Ball is only one day away and I’ve just finalized my outfit – cutting it close, I know!

Thanks for helping me decide on my dress – I love it! But this is a black-tie affair and accessories are a must.

So I just got back from the WAG’s Gallery Shop and wow, have they got a great selection of jewelry! I love that so many of their pieces are created by local and Canadian artists.

Deciding was tricky – there were so many beautiful and completely unique pieces by artists like David Rice, Brook Drabot, Lily Rosenberg and Elizabeth Garvin Design – to name just a few.

The people at the Gallery Shop were a big help. I brought along some pictures of my dress and together we came up with some wonderful possibilities.

In the end, this is what I chose:

This natural ruby pepplest bracelet by Joan Hamilton, a jeweller from Caledon, Ontario, and these banana fibre light earrings from Winnipeg’s very own dconstruct.

I just couldn’t wait till tomorrow for the big reveal – I’m too excited!

And the WAG Gallery shop sells wonderful items along with jewelry too! Beautiful pottery, glass, wall art, Inuit art, books and gift ideas – and we all know the holiday gift-giving season is coming!

Check out the shop inside the WAG, 300 Memorial Blvd.:

Tuesday – Sunday 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Friday 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Closed Mondays

Easiest. Pledge. Ever!

How can you say no to this face?
How can you say no to this face?

It may not be quite as much of a madhouse as Black Friday was in the US, but it’s definitely shopping season here!

Isn’t finding the perfect gift for someone a great feeling? When you see something and you just KNOW that person you love is going to love it. You can’t wait for Christmas morning to come so you can see their face when they unwrap it. I love that feeling (and I’m a bit of a shopaholic) so Christmas gives me the perfect excuse to go just a little over the top. And I don’t want to be the only shopaholic out there.

So I’m bringing back the Pledge to Shop Downtown for the Holidays this year!

It’s very simple, click on the link that will take you to the shop downtown Facebook page. Click on the “Like” button and you will be eligible for a host of great prizes over the next few weeks, as well as great ideas and deals for all your holidays shopping!

Basically, it’s an informal “pledge” to do as much of your holiday shopping in downtown as you can. When we support our downtown, it can only get better! And I think it’s the easiest pledge ever to take – when there’s cute stuff like the little penguin I bought for my niece out there, it’s hard for me to stop myself from shopping.

I’ve already given away a pair of tickets to the RWB’s Nutcracker…next up, two weeks with Yoga Public!

“Like” the Pledge to Shop Downtown Page and share what you’ve bought  and you’re entered to win! The higher the likes, the more prizes we’re giving, so tell your friends, family, well-wishers and acquaintances to take the pledge too!
