More great music from the Folk Festival

Well it’s been a few weeks since my inaugural trip to the Winnipeg Folk Fest (I think I finally got the mud out from under my nails..) and I’m already craving some great folky tunes. Thank goodness the Winnipeg Folk Festival hosts awesome concerts all year long, and they’re right here in our wonderful downtown!

Upcoming must-see concerts:

Sturgill Simpson
With an album called A Sailor’s Guide to Earth, you know you’re going to be in for an interesting show! Sturgill Simpson’s musical style combines 70s Motown, with R&B, and country roots, that’s sounds like something that I just have to see!

Royal Canoe Album Release for Something Got Lost Between Here and the Orbit
This beloved Winnipeg band is back in the city and playing the Burton Cummings Theatre on September 15. Royal Canoe’s sound is said to be so widely unique and inspired by our great city’s “extreme perpetual cycle through euphoric summers under gigantic prairie skies, to near-debilitating winters that instill their own intense, almost aggressive energy into the psyche.” Whatever that means it sounds like a life-changing, mind-blowing experience that I just NEED to see!
