Pride Winnipeg Festival

Did you know the pride flag first flew in the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade on June 18, 1978? It was a fitting location for a first fly since the flag was actually designed by San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker. The six coloured stripes each have their own meaning.

The 2016 Pride Winnipeg Festival kicked off this year with the annual flag rising ceremony at City Hall on May 27 at noon.

This weekend, on June 4 and 5, you can take part in the Pride Festival at The Forks. According to their website, there are lots of things to do:

  • Meet community groups, businesses, and local artisans in the Manitoba LGBT Chamber of Commerce PrideMART.
  • Children and families have their own place to play at the KidZone featuring the crew from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers!
  • Two food vendor villageswill make sure that no one goes home hungry!
  • Live music at the Scotiabank Stage.

One of the best ways to take in the festival (I think) is to indulge in some Queer Beer! Brewed as a German Pilsner, Queer Beer has a mild taste with a slight fruity aroma that comes from the hops. It is sold in cases of six 341ml bottles and will be available at all LiquorMart locations for the 2016 Pride Winnipeg Festival.
