A non-traditional Valentine’s Day – Mardi Gras!

470506_10150691495127114_303838264_oBy non-traditional , that means 1) no one-on-one candlelit dinners in romantic restaurants and 2) no sitting at home on your couch with Ben and Jerry.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with either option – hey, I’ve indulged in both. This is for those that might be looking for, y’know, a bit of a change this year. Something a little spicier to do!

February 14th, the RBC Convention Centre is hosting their annual Mardi Gras! If you’re up for something different, here’s 5 reasons you it might be just your flavour:

  1. The music – Zydeco tunes to get you dancing all night long! (if, like me, you just discovered Zydeco, I’ll save you the trouble of googling. Here’s the wiki!)
  2. Louisiana foodie treats – some of which I guarantee you’ve never tried. Jambalaya, gumbo, crocodile fritters, Bourbon flamed garlic pepper shrimp, and an oyster bar!
  3. Entertainment – it’s about more than just music, they’ve got showgirls, showBOYS and a Mardi Gras Parade to entertain you!
  4. Feel the burn – the drink of the night is cinnamon whisky shooters! I’m not at all confident I’ll be trying more than one, but I’m going to give it a shot!
  5. It runs till 2am – so even if you’ve already got plans, there’s always time to stop by for a dance and some beads before or after!

cuisine-01-largeYou’ve got to be 18 to enter (the cinnamon shooters probably gave that away) – tickets are just $16!

And….I’ve got tickets to give away! Let me know in the comments the food you want to try most, and you’re entered!

  1. Bourbon Garlic Pepper Shrimp with Sweet Potato Fries sounds warm and yummy! I’ve never been to this Mardi Gras event before, but it sounds like fun!

  2. To be very honest . . . I would want to try a little of EVERTHING! I LOVE ethnic food, but have never tried Louisiana style food. If I had to pick one . . . it would have to be crocodile fritters ? ? ? Oh my gosh . . . how could I ? LOL The BONUS . . . is that the event takes place on Valentine’s Day! Love, love, love! 🙂

  3. I’m a guy who just likes food…..period! I would try it all: jambalaya, gumbo, crocodile fritters, bourbon flamed garlic pepper shrimp and the oyster bar. No doubt about it! And who doesn’t like a party? I’m in, win or lose.

  4. The Crocodile Fritters (something new), Louisiana Crab Cakes (a favorite) and Basin Street Bread Pudding (family tradition) all sounds absolutely delicious!! It would be a blast to attend 🙂
