Finn’s Pub
The Johnston Terminal, 944-8118

Enjoy live music in the casual setting of an Irish pub. Munch on crowd pleasers like cheesy nachos or the Finn’s burger. Have a game at one of the pool tables. The perfect spot for an after work drink.

Muddywaters Smokehouse
The Forks Market, 947-6653

Muddywaters is one of the best places to hang out in the summer. With two patios, you can sit back, relax and watch the traffic of The Forks Market on a beautiful Friday evening. The menu is perfect for the barbeque lover and I am always stunned at their wing selection. They come in flavours ranging from mole to hot blue cheese to spicy peanut. Of course they’ve got the classics as well with lip-smacking salt & pepper, sweet chilli and honey garlic.

Other menu items play off classic foods and offer a twist. For example, the stout drizzled onion ring is crispy and light and satisfying especially when paired with BBQ mayo. I also love the smoky corn and bacon chowder for a starter. Muddy Waters also offers an impressive list of burgers with a wide variety of toppings. My favourite is the holey burger: a half pound homemade beef patty and topped with mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions and a pickle spear on the side. Simple and scrumptious!

Pony Corral
444 St Mary Avenue, 942-4414

Downtown’s Pony Corral has received a fabulous new facelift, making it a can’t-miss destination for classic dishes and live entertainment. The bar area has been updated with dark woods, cozy fabrics and sparkling lighting–including a stage built right above the bar! Head over after work and swing to the beat while catching up with friends.

The Chocolate Shop
268 Portage Avenue, 947-9109

The Chocolate Shop is Winnipeg’s oldest restaurant, opening in 1918. Named after what was once a candy store, the historic space was once a busy dining room catering to a wide variety of tastes. Today, it is home to a culinary school, restaurant and newly-opened bakeshop. The menu offers traditional favourites as well as aboriginal-inspired plates such as bison and blueberry stew served with fresh bannock. Pop into the bakery next store and pick up the Chocolate Shop’s signature torte–four layers of rich chocolate cake smothered in dark chocolate frosting.

  5. I would love to try Finn’s! I was devastated when The Brit Cafe and Dylan’s on Portage closed down; they were my “taste of home”…. would definitely love to check out another Irish pub!

  6. Finn’s Pub would be fantastic! It’s a convenient place to meet after work for dinner, plus it would be an appropriate place to have a belated St. Patrick’s Day celebration. 🙂

  7. Ooohh! I don’t know if I’ve heard about The Chocolate Shop before, but love that the dishes are Aboriginal-inspired! I don’t understand why we don’t have more of this in Wpg.

  9. The Keg Downtown has to be one of my most favourate restaurants period. Their BBQ ribs are to die for – perfectly done and seasoned. Great with their cole slaw and fries – I don’t require anything else!.
