Baroque Botero

I am so embarassed it has taken me this long to get to this post, but I’m finally there and I come bearing gifts!

I’ve got passes to give away to the Winnipeg Art Gallery’s Botero exhibitjust send me an email at mail@downtownpeggy.com and let me know why you want to go. It’s just that easy!

Now on to the actual show. I had been eagerly anticipating this one ever since I’d been first introduced to Botero’s work. I find something so compelling about the bright colours he uses combined with his interesting take on proportion. All of the paintings are absolutely enormous and it’s a sight to behold them in real life.

I also particularly liked his riffs on famous pieces such as Van Gogh’s Sunflowers–it’s compelling to see and feels kind of like greeting an old friend in its familiarity. I’ve assembled a few of my favourites here so you can get a sense of what to expect. (Thank to the WAG for providing me with these.)

The show runs until February 27, so hurry up! You don’t want to miss this.
