It’s time for another installment of Peggy’s Secret Santa! This week’s winner is one of the hardest working guys in Winnipeg. His wife Katherine nominated him and here’s what she had to say.
David has undertaken a large volunteer project completely on his own time and initiative as his way of giving-back to the city he lives in. The Winnipeg Bicycle Valet is a new project as of this year. David has spent many long hours setting up meetings, submitting grant applications, organizing and approaching volunteers, picking up and dropping off materials, and volunteering his time at events simply to better his community.
David has organized a bicycle valet at numerous downtown events, as well as all the Bombers games since the valet’s inception.
Along with his volunteer work David recently returned from a 16 month deployment which took him overseas to some very dangerous locations, and away from his wife and 18 month old child. David is a soldier in the Canadian Military and received a prestigious commendation for his work during his deployment.
David is a huge advocate for living, working and volunteering in downtown Winnipeg.
The Winnipeg Bicycle Valet is indeed one of the coolest projects I’ve seen in a long time and he does it all on his own time. He’s at every Bomber game and even volunteered at our very own Ciclovia event this summer. For his commitment to creating a greener and more sustainable city, I felt David deserved something special.
Since David is obviously a bike lover, I picked up this awesome thermal hoodie from Mountain Equipment Coop for him. This will keep him warm and dry throughout the winter. (This makes an awesome gift for any man in your life.)
So congratulations David and have a Happy Holiday!
