My very favourite thing about the holidays is trimming the tree—followed closely by the food, the egg nog and of course the presents. To me it’s not Christmas without a perfectly-matched, Martha Stewartequse tree. (I hear she has eight different themed trees in her house. Someone commit me if I ever get that nuts.)
That’s why I love this new idea from the Winnipeg Art Gallery so much. They’re having their first ever Tree Trimming Party next Thursday—something they hope to make an annual tradition.
It goes from 6pm-9pm on December 2 and includes free hot chocolate and cookies, pictures with Santa, caroling, a viewing of Miracle on 34th Street and you get you make your own decorations to hang on the tree. If that doesn’t all put you in the spirit, I don’t know what will. Admission is free and they’ll be taking donations for Winnipeg Harvest as well.
Speaking of Winnipeg Harvest (nice segue huh?), did you know that Winnipeg Blue Bomber Luke Fritz is vying for a $50,000 grant to feed hungry kids in the city? You can help him reach his goal by visiting this link and voting for him. So go on over and do something good. Go Luke!
And finally, one of my favourite events of the year is happening this weekend and is perfect if you’ve taken the Pledge to Shop Downtown for the Holidays. The Signatures Craft Show is happening at the Convention Centre where you can pick up thousands of gorgeous handmade, handcrafted, loving-prepared items including decor, accessories, jewellery, soap, frames, food and so much more.
The event features more than 125 Manitoban and Canadian artisans and admission is free.
Don’t forget to take the Pledge to win great prizes. We’ve got tickets to MTC’s White Christmas to give away as well as the WSO’s performance of Beethoven Mass in C. Starting December we’re also going to be giving away gift certificates to downtown shops—so don’t miss out!
Stuff to remember:
- Take the Pledge to Shop Downtown for the Holidays. Last week we gave away tickets to the Moscow Ballet. This week, we’ve got tickets for Mira Black at the WAG, as well as MTC’s production of White Christmas up for grabs. Tell your friends.
- If you haven’t already nominated someone for Peggy’s Secret Santa, don’t forget. I know someone in your life deserves a special treat this holiday season, so play a good little elf and nominate them.
- And finally, be sure to enter the Downtown Makeover contest!
